  • Grammarly

    Every application you send is a writing sample: the résumé, the cover letter, the "just following up" email. Grammarly cleans all of it up as you type, and the free tier genuinely covers what a job search needs. If your last proofread happened at 1 AM, this is the safety net.

  • Jobscan

    Most applications get read by software before any human sees them. Jobscan compares your résumé against the actual job description and shows you what the matching systems will and won't pick up, so you're adjusting with information instead of guessing. Won't work miracles; will stop easy misses.

  • GotResumeBuilder

    If you're starting from a blank page (or a 2014 Word doc), a builder gets you to a clean, modern résumé fast. Real free tier, straightforward templates, no design skills required.

  • FreeCV

    A genuinely free AI résumé builder, the free-first option on this shelf. Good first stop if the budget for job-search tools is exactly zero dollars, which is a completely reasonable budget.

Finding the Jobs

  • FlexJobs

    A vetted board for remote and flexible roles: every listing is screened by humans, which matters in a category crawling with scams. If "remote" is a requirement and not a preference, this is the haystack with fewer needles pointed at you.

  • Huntr

    A tracker for the whole pipeline: which version of your résumé went where, who you talked to, what's stalled. Your ApplyPot dashboard tracks the tickets; Huntr tracks the campaign. They get along fine.

Interviews

  • Gemini Live (Google)

    Google retired Interview Warmup and points practice traffic here instead. Gemini Live isn't a purpose-built interview tool (it's a general voice assistant), but ask it to play the interviewer for the role you're chasing and it will run a spoken mock interview and talk through your answers with you. Practicing out loud is still the single highest-return interview prep there is, and the free tier covers it.

Expert Help

  • ResumeZest

    Professional résumé writing, for the moment you decide it's worth paying a human expert, usually after a stretch of silence that a rewrite might fix. It's the priciest thing in the whole Toolbox, which is exactly why it gets its own clearly-labeled shelf instead of hiding among the free tools.

Backup Bench

    Another solid, inexpensive résumé builder. Listed because choice is good and one size never fits all.
